Intern - DTE Device Modelling

AI Job Summary

The Programme

Project Objective / Purpose:

GF plans to expand the capabilities of the optimization routines of its model extraction tools to improve turnaround time (TAT) for SPICE model extraction.

The SPICE model extraction flow is currently not fully automated; a significant amount of manual work is needed to ensure that the models extracted are of good quality meeting GF’s criteria.  GF target to reduce the TAT by 20%-50% for model extraction in the long term.

This goal could be achieved with more powerful optimization routines introduced by its model extraction tools’ vendors, combined with the right criteria used in the optimization flow, guided by GF’s modeling expert.

Project Description:

The intern will be guided by an experienced manager and project leads on how to use the optimization routines in the model extraction tools and to modify the flow to suit GF’s model extraction flow.

The intern will make use of existing data to test out the effectiveness (in terms is speed and accuracy) of the various optimization routines, modify the criteria used for optimization, vary the steps involved in the optimization flow, to achieve the best results.

The benchmark will be performed by comparing the auto-extracted model versus the previous model extracted manually in terms of speed and accuracy.

This work will be guided by an experienced modeling manager and project lead to ensure that the intern could complete the assigned tasks within the internship duration.

Project Outcome:

In this project, the intern would gain real-world experience in a technology company, be exposed to the state-of-the-art equipment and tools, and best-in-class model extraction methodology.

SPICE models have always been a critical component in a semiconductor foundry for customer engagement and design enablement. The successful automation of the SPICE model extraction flow has significant impact in the overall model extraction efficiency and will contribute positively to keep GF more competitive in offering feature-rich and differentiated solutions to our customers.

The involvement of the intern in this project and the experience gained will place the intern in a more advantaged position to be hired in a technology company compared to his peers.
